Using the sources from the Islamic era and an analytic-descriptive research method, the present writing tries to illuminate what Isfandiyar means by the term “Iranians” in the hemistich “I shall give the realm to Iranians” in Ferdawsi’s The Book of Kings (Shahnami), while complaining to his mother from his father Gushtasp. Many researchers into The Book of Kings have raised the question whether Iran was not already in the hands of Iranians so that Isfandiyar would plan to take it back from his father and give it to them. The result of the research showed that during Kaykhusraw, pahlavānān considered Luhrasp, the grandfather of Isfandiyar, as a foreigner and of ignoble origins because he was a mandaeist (there are some inferences to this in The Book of Kings, and in other sources his mandaeism is directly referred to), and had close connections with such foreigners as Nebuchadnezzar II. In the above quoted hemistich, Isfandiyar intends to raise this subject in opposition to his father. Thus, “Iranians” in his words means pahlavānān of Sistan, as the Parths of whom the dynasty of Zal and Gudarz are descendants called their land and the surrounding area “Iran-Shahr”, and in view of evidence Sistan can be considered in connection with the expanse of Iranians (Iran-wīj)
