Abstract

Muntaha Al Arb Fi Loghat El Arab Arabic to Farsi dictionary was written by Abdo
Rahim son of AbolKarim Safi Pour Hendi. This dictionary was compiled based on a
manuscript penned by above author and was published in his time in Calcutta, then a
transcription was conducted on the printed version and it was published for the second
time in Tehran. The author founded this dictionary-which is one of the most validated
and well-known Arabic to Farsi dictionaries-on the translated version of the invaluable
book of ‘Ghamoos’ by Firoozabadi, and he has resolved its deficiencies using a
number of old Arabic and Arabic to Farsi dictionaries, the names of which are given in
the author’s preface.
Traditionally, language experts and terminologists have been interested in bilingual
dictionaries, because, on one hand, they result in extending the range of both source
and translation languages and on other hand, they meet translators’ professional needs.
Muntaha Al Arb Fi Loghat El Arabis also a bilingual dictionary, which is
important due to application of old Farsi words, as well as presentation of precise
equivalents for Arabic words and it contains written, style, grammatical and lexical
features. The present article is attempting to introduce the characteristics of this
dictionary, express its values and mention its deficiencies for further use of the
scholars.
